Century City, South Africa’s ground-breaking New Urban precinct
Just a few minutes from Cape Town’s CBD is Century City, a privately managed, 250-hectare mixed-use precinct. This world-class model of New Urban planning and implementation successfully combines residential, commercial and leisure components in a beautifully landscaped setting on the banks of eight kilometres of picturesque waterways and canals. Home to over 500 companies, including national or regional head offices of some of South Africa’s blue-chip corporates, and to over 4 500 apartments, houses, and penthouses, Century City boasts an enormous variety of world class retail, leisure and natural amenities.
Location and Transport
Century City is very centrally situated in relation to the greater Cape Town metropole, providing convenient access to and from the CBD, the V&A Waterfront, the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern, Northern and West Coast Suburbs, the airport and the wine lands. Being situated on the N1 highway provides quick and convenient access for motorists, while public transport is extremely well catered for in the form of train, bus, mini bus taxi and BRT routes.
Retail and Hospitality
Century City has an amazing range of shops, restaurants and entertainment. Not only is the precinct home to Cape Town’s premier shopping centre, Canal Walk, with over 400 shops and restaurants, but it also features numerous other convenience retail outlets, restaurants and coffee bars. There are currently five hotels, ranging from ultra-luxury to business budget, including the exciting new 125-room Century City Hotel, which has opened alongside our new 1200 delegate Century City Conference Centre, both part of the R1billion mixed-use Century City Square development.
Safety and Security
Century City is a bastion of safety and security, making use of a network of more than 150 constantly monitored CCTV cameras. This forms part of the Century City Property Owners’ Association own rapid response security force, which operates 24-hour vehicular and pedestrian patrols through its state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC).
Century City is equipped with South Africa’s first open access fibre optic network, Century City Connect. This means that businesses and residents not only have access to the fastest internet connection available but are free to choose competitive packages from a wide range of internet service providers.
Century City boasts a variety of function and conferencing facilities including the state-of-the-art Century City Conference Centre and Hotel which opened in early 2016. The 1200 seat Conference Centre, which has a total capacity of 1900 over 20 venues, provides the ideal location for a wide variety of events and has taken the market by storm. Other conference facilities in the precinct that are operated by Rabie associated companies include Cape Town Marriott Crystal Towers Hotel, which boasts four large and technologically superior conference venues accommodating up to 450 delegates, and eight elegant and distinctive boardrooms.
Then there is Bridgeways in Ratanga Junction, whose variety of function venues can accommodate banquets for up to 800 guests, conferencing from 25 to 350 delegates, cocktail functions from 60 to 2000 guests, and family or corporate days for up to 5000 guests. These venues are operational up until 1 May 2018.
On a smaller scale there is Manhattan Suites and Conferencing, which can accommodate up to 50 delegates.
Century City’s Intaka Island is a 16-hectare nature reserve that is home to a wide variety of fynbos, including some red data species, and over 120 bird species. Its wetlands system acts as a biological filter, cleansing the water in Century City’s extensive 8-kilometre canal system. The nature reserve has become an important educational and eco-tourism destination.
