Spar opens its first store in Century City

Spar opens its first store in Century City

An exciting new shopping destination has been added to Century City, with Spar opening its first store in the node in Rabie Property Group’s new convenience shopping centre, Century Village.

For seasoned Spar franchisees, father and son team Henry and Jonathan Barnes, this new gourmet store will be their second outlet, after the very successful Bothasig Spar.  During the official opening ceremony on 25 July, a cold winter’s morning, Jonathan expressed great pride and enthusiasm in opening their beautiful store.  “It’s hard to believe that we’re standing on the spot where only a parking area existed – not even one brick in sight.  We are very grateful to every person, of which there are many, who made today possible.”

The contemporary design of the store results in a warm and inviting shopping experience, presenting a wide array of freshly prepared meals, fresh fruit and vegetables and an extensive meat selection.  Besides filling your trolley with everything on offer, you can enjoy a cup of fresh coffee and indulge in an assortment of sinful sweet things at the temptation bar.

“What is being displayed here today is absolutely unbelievable” said Ross Bannatyne, New Business Manager at The Spar Group, during his welcome address at the opening of the store. “I am astonished to see what we have been able to put together.  Our various teams across the firm have stood us proud with their exceptional efforts.”

Customers were ready to go with their red trolleys as soon as the store’s doors opened, and a steady flow of shoppers resulted in a bumper opening day.  The morning was so successful that additional trolleys had to be delivered and products constantly restocked as the opening specials flew off the shelves.

“We are very excited about the opening of Century Village”, says Chris Blackshaw, CEO of Century City Property Owners’ Association.  “The location as well as the great combination of shops, with Spar being the main drawcard, is a welcome new offering for not only the nearby residents, schools and businesses, but is also sure to attract a wider clientele to Century City.”

Tenants were hand-picked to ensure that everyday shopping is as easy and accessible as possible. Shoppers will be able to do electronic banking at the Nedbank ATM and absa ATM, courier a package at Postnet, get a makeover at Modhair’N or Skin PHD and have their eyes tested at Neovision Optometrists.  Century Village Fruit and Nuts and Lavender Blue Health Shop will look after your health and Urban Tails, a vetshop, after the needs of your furry friends.

Greens Café and Pizzeria will offer comfortable spaces for leisurely dining, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or supper.  Akiya Sushi will be serving delectable authentic Japanese sushi and various Chinese dishes on a takeaway basis.

Rabie Property Group’s COO, Colin Anderson says, “It’s a landmark moment for us, not only in terms of Century Village being the first stand-alone convenience shopping centre in Century City, but also the collaboration with Spar, which resulted in their first store in the precinct.  The completed gourmet store has exceeded all our expectations and we are very proud of presenting such a world-class shopping destination in our portfolio.”

Century Village Spar trades from 7:00 to 21:00 daily and customers enjoy 90 minutes free parking.
