Two new residential developments coming on stream

Two exciting new residential developments at Century City – the R220million Mayfair and theR150m Manhattan Quarter – are bringing a total of 199 apartments on stream.

Mayfair, which was sold off plan within hours during a buying frenzy at its launch two years ago, was completed in June with all 136 apartments having been handed over.

The apartments, all of which boast balconies overlooking beautifully landscaped gardens with water features and streams and a meandering walkway, range in size from 50 square metres to 92 square metres excluding balconies and sold for between R1 050 000 to R2 090 000, VAT inclusive.

Designed by Tim Hughes architect, Mayfair was built by Big Ben Construction.

Meanwhile construction of Manhattan Quarter, a complex of 63 apartments overlooking the Grand Canal, is on track for completion in October with owners scheduled to take hand over and transfer in November.

Comprising larger than usual apartments, Manhattan Quarter apartments sold for between R1,4million and R4,8m and, due to their generous proportions, were particularly popular with owner occupiers.

Manhattan Quarter is conveniently located on a site adjoining Manhattan Towers – a 15-storey block of 93 apartments set over a ground floor commercial component including a restaurant and conference facilities – and Manhattan Wharfside – a strip of single and double storey apartments fronting onto the Grand Canal. The existing Manhattan components were built in red facebrick and this architectural element is being carried through to Manhattan Quarter.

Designed by Munnik Visser Architects, Manhattan Quarter is being constructed by Big Ben Construction.

Units in both developments have been resold at significantly higher prices. Two apartments in Manhattan Quarter which were sold initially for R2 850 000 and R2 500 000 have been resold for R3 700 000 and R3 200 000 respectively while a unit in Mayfair, which was originally sold for R1 170 000 has been resold for R1 750 000.

The rest of the Manhattan precinct, which will include a commercial component including a boutique office block for a leading architect, a large park and a crèche for 160 children, is also under construction and due for completion in November.
