Women in construction – Babe the builder

Babe the builder – Our Women in Construction

When visiting a Rabie construction site, you might see a blonde ponytail peeping from underneath a hard hat or hear a female voice explain site instructions.  Here, we’re all part of the Rabie family and absolutely passionate to get our hands and site boots dirty.

We visited our dynamic dames on site to find out why they love their jobs in the construction industry.

Mariska Auret | Director
Women in construction – Babe the builder

Currently working on

Oasis Life Clara Anna Fontein, Durbanville and Bridgewater, Century City

Why I love my job

I love development and construction as, for me, it represents hope and commitment in our future. We are involved in job creation in our country on all levels across the board and it is the most exhilarating feeling to see a building come to life from mere lines we put on a drawing. Nothing compares to it!

Bio

Mariska started her career at Rabie in September 2014 as project manager and has been responsible for successfully completed projects such as Grosvenor Square, Waters Edge, and Century Village in Century City.  She was appointed as director in August 2020 and is responsible for the projects at Clara Anna Fontein and Bridgewater  in Century City.

Bow Tie, Burgundy Estate

Why I love my job

The feeling of taking an open piece of land and building homes where our purchasers can plant their hearts, create families, and watching them grow, is the most amazing sense of achievement.

Bio

Shumerah started off in retail, studying part time. In 2006, she started her first corporate job with a Joinery Company as an administrator and completed her BTech in Project Management.  She joined Rabie in 2013 PA to a Senior Project Manager and grew into the role of Maintenance Manager and Project assistance, very proud to now fill the role of a Junior Project Manager while still retaining her role as Maintenance Manager for Century City and Burgundy residential.

Currently working on

Oasis Life Burgundy Estate

Why I love my job

I enjoy the dynamic and transformative nature of the industry. Watching a small idea grow into a reality and being a part of that change is exciting. No two projects are the same, and therefore we are challenged with each job we work on.

Bio

An avid traveler from birth, Michaela was born in Cambridge, ticked off a few African countries as a tiny tot and spent most of her formative years in Botswana and Malawi before becoming a Capetonian at age 14.   Michaela studied BSc and Honours in Property Studies at UCT and joined Rabie at the end of 2017.  Her previous projects include Oasis Luxury Resort, Axis Luxury Apartments and Bridgewater, all located in Century City.

Lezarne Lyners | Junior Project Manager & Client Liaison

Currently working on

Cape Gate Crescent, Brackenfell

Why I love my job

I love the rush of fast-paced deadlines, project planning, client liaison, problem-solving and using materials to build multi-million Rand complexes and housing from the ground up. The instant gratification of seeing your handiwork is a job satisfaction only someone in construction can appreciate.

Bio

Lezarne has been working in construction as Project Assistant for the last seven years and joined Rabie on 1 September 2017 and worked on several projects in Burgundy Estate.  She first commenced with an accounting degree at UCT and quickly realised that it was not her passion.  The past three years and her love for seeing the bigger picture has also guided her into her choice for studies. Plans for next year include completing her degree in Project Management.
