Valentine Under The Stars concert rocks new Square

Century City Square was christened by spectacular Valentine Under The Stars concerts featuring the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) over the Valentine weekend.

Playing to capacity audiences on both the Saturday and Sunday nights, the CPO was accompanied by some of the top musical talent in the country in this classic-meets-pop concert which was filled with love and romance under the Cape Town night sky.

Performances included South African soprano Magdalene Minnaar, together with soprano Lynelle Kenned, a graduate of the UCT Opera School, who made her acting debut in the musical theatre production of Blood Brothers, a David Kramer adaptation of the West End’s hit.

Also wowing the audience was Afro-operatic pop sensations The Gugulethu Tenors who have become well known in South Africa since the release of their self-titled debut album in 2011. These self-taught artists have incorporated contemporary and subtle ethnic elements in their music, to make their own genre, capturing the hearts of audiences across South Africa and beyond with their talent.

Sharing the stage was Jonathan Roxmouth, praised for his performance as the Phantom in the classical show Phantom of the Opera.

The concerts were hosted by Katlego Maboe, of Expresso fame.
